Mettler SERAFLEX® is an especially stretchy sewing thread designed for sewing knits and other stretch fabrics. Thanks to its innovative PTT fiber, the thread can stretch by up to 65%, helping create flexible seams that move with the fabric.

The biggest advantage of SERAFLEX® is that you can sew an elastic straight stitch with a regular sewing machine. By adjusting the thread tension correctly and using SERAFLEX® for both the upper and bobbin threads, seams can be up to twice as stretchy as those made with regular sewing thread.

How to sew with SERAFLEX® thread

For the stretchiest seams, follow the manufacturer's recommendations:

1. Use SERAFLEX® for both the upper and bobbin threads.

2. Select the straight stitch on your regular sewing machine.

3. Set the thread tension as loose as possible while maintaining a good-quality stitch.

4. Wind the bobbin thread with minimal tension so it does not stretch while being wound.

5. Test the stitch on a scrap of your chosen fabric before sewing.

Important: To get the full benefit of SERAFLEX®'s special stretch, the manufacturer recommends using this thread specifically for straight stitching.
