134 DI, DPx8 are SCHMETZ industrial sewing machine needles with a diamond cutting point, designed for sewing thick, hard, dry leather. The DI point helps penetrate stiff material precisely and create a very straight, neat seam.
DI cutting point features
DI (Diamond Point) is a diamond-shaped cutting point with four cutting edges. It creates a centered cut across the direction of needle insertion.
The seam produced by the DI point looks similar to one made by the narrow cross-cutting S-type point, but its four cutting edges make it easier to pierce especially hard and thick materials.
The diamond-shaped point design helps reduce needle deflection and produce a precise, straight, slightly recessed stitch line.
Suitable materials and applications
- Thick, hard, dry genuine leather.
- Stiff leather for shoemaking.
- Leather bags and suitcases.
- Durable leather goods that require a precise seam.

Compatibility and needle selection
These needles are designed for industrial sewing machines whose technical documentation specifies system 134 DI, 135x8 DIA, or DPx8. Before purchasing, check that the system is compatible and choose an NM size suitable for the leather thickness and sewing thread.
Important: DI is a cutting point for hard leather, not for general-purpose fabric sewing. The cutting edges may damage the threads of woven or knitted textiles. Before sewing, check the seam’s appearance and strength on a leather sample.
