135x16 DIA, DPx16 DIA are SCHMETZ industrial sewing machine needles with a DI-type diamond point, designed for sewing thick, hard, and dry leather. The four cutting edges help the needle penetrate stiff material precisely and create a straight, even seam.
DI point features
DI (Diamond Point) is a diamond-shaped point with four cutting edges. It cuts across the direction of needle penetration and helps create a very straight stitch line that sits slightly recessed in the material.
Compared with the narrow cross-cutting S-type point, DI penetrates hard, thick leather more effectively. The symmetrical point shape helps reduce needle deflection and ensures a precise seam appearance.
Suitable materials and applications
- Thick, hard, and dry genuine leather.
- Stiff leather for shoemaking.
- Leather bags, suitcases, and other durable leather goods.
- Leather goods that require a precise, straight seam.

Compatibility and needle selection
These needles are designed for industrial sewing machines whose technical documentation specifies the 135x16 DIA or DPx16 DIA needle system. Before purchasing, check that the system is compatible and choose an NM size suitable for the leather thickness and sewing thread.
Important: DI is a cutting point designed for stiff leather, not for sewing fabrics in general. The cutting edges may damage the threads of woven and knitted textiles. Test the result on a material sample before sewing the finished product.
