DBx1, 16x231 are SCHMETZ universal industrial sewing machine needles with a standard R-type round point. They are designed for sewing a variety of woven fabrics, coated materials, and technical textiles, helping produce precise, even stitch lines.
Features of universal R-point needles
R (Normal Round Point) is a standard needle point with a slender, conical shape. It is widely used in industrial sewing and is suitable for a variety of woven fabrics and technical textiles.
SCHMETZ does not usually add the letter R to the system designation for the standard R point. Therefore, DBx1 and 16x231 without another point designation indicate the standard round-point version.
Unlike special leather-cutting points, the R point is not designed to make pronounced cuts. For delicate knits, a rounded ball point such as SES or SUK may be more suitable.
Suitable materials and applications
- Lightweight and medium-weight woven fabrics.
- Cotton and linen fabrics.
- Densely woven fabrics and technical textiles.
- Coated fabrics and awning materials.
- Laminated materials with layers of soft plastic or thin cardboard.
- Films and suitable synthetic materials.
- Leather and textile combinations, when a standard round point is suitable.

Compatibility and needle selection
These needles are designed for industrial sewing machines whose technical documentation specifies the compatible DBx1, 16x231, 287 WH, or 1738 (A) needle system. Before purchasing, check your specific sewing machine's needle system and required NM size.
Important: DBx1 is not the same as DPx5, DPx17, or the 130/705 H household sewing machine system. Use only the needle system specified for your sewing machine.
Recommendation: For knits, consider SES or SUK point types. SPI may be more suitable for especially densely woven and fine fabrics, while the universal SERV 7 design may be preferable for more demanding sewing conditions.
