DBx1 SPI SERV 7, 16x231 SPI SERV 7 are SCHMETZ industrial sewing machine needles for tightly woven, lightweight, and fine fabrics. They combine the sharp, slim round point of SPI with the reinforced SERV 7 design, helping ensure precise penetration and reduce the risk of seam puckering and skipped stitches.
SPI point and SERV 7 design features
SPI (Acute Round Point) is a sharp, slim round needle point with a fine conical shape. It helps pierce tightly woven materials precisely and achieve an even-looking seam.
SERV 7 is a reinforced needle geometry with a specially shaped Hump Scarf indentation near the needle eye. It helps form a larger thread loop that the sewing machine hook can catch more easily. The reinforced working area reduces needle deflection and the risk of breakage in more demanding sewing conditions.
Suitable materials and applications
- Very tightly woven fabrics.
- Microfiber fabrics.
- Silk and fine silk fabrics.
- Lightweight, smooth fabrics such as taffeta.
- Lightweight coated textiles.
- Making shirt collars, cuffs, and other precise topstitching.
- Sewing tasks that require precise penetration and greater needle stability.

Compatibility and needle selection
These needles are designed for industrial sewing machines that use the corresponding DBx1 or 16x231 system. Before purchasing, check your sewing machine manual and choose an NM size suitable for the fabric and thread.
Important: The sharp SPI point is not universally suitable for knits, as it may damage the knit loops. Knits are generally sewn with a suitable ball point, such as SES or SUK.
