DPx5 SPI, 135x5 SPI are SCHMETZ industrial sewing machine needles for tightly woven, lightweight and fine fabrics. The SPI needle’s extra-sharp, slender point helps pierce dense materials precisely, creating neat stitches and reducing the risk of seam puckering.
SPI needle point features
SPI (Acute Round Point) is a sharp, slender round point with a fine, tapered shape. It is designed for precise penetration of tightly woven and certain coated materials.
SPI is suitable for sewing applications where precise needle penetration and reduced seam puckering are important. It is especially useful when working with fine, tightly woven fabrics.
Suitable materials
- Very tightly woven fabrics.
- Microfiber fabrics.
- Silk and lightweight silk fabrics.
- Lightweight, smooth fabrics such as taffeta.
- Lightweight coated materials.
- Topstitching on fine shirt collars and cuffs.
- Materials with uncovered elastomer threads when preventing them from being pushed out is necessary.

Compatibility and needle selection
These needles are designed for industrial sewing machines that use the corresponding needle system. Before purchasing, check the system designation and choose an NM size suited to the fabric structure, thread and stitch type.
Important: The sharp SPI point is not a universal choice for all knit fabrics. Knits usually require a suitable ball point, such as SES or SUK.
